Finding your virtual power by Pilar Ortiz
Nowadays, making videos is becoming easier and easier. It is not like a few years ago when we needed big productions, professional cameras, and a television channel to reproduce them.
Technology has made everything easier. A camera and we are ready to record. However, why are there so many people who want to make videos to promote themselves or spread a special message, but are not yet encouraged to do so?
The answer is simple, lack of confidence. We have the resources, we know the topic, but we are paralyzed in front of the lens because we are full of insecurities. Insecurity about the subject? I don't think so. It's more a fear of being visible and not looking "as expected".
From my experience in television networks, as an anchor and director, I am convinced that lack of confidence is one of the bottles that most stagnate and bogs people down, especially when making videos. The principle of effective communication is confidence, the rest are elements that help us to transmit the message better.
The essence itself is what allows us to shine on screen. When there is confidence there is a connection with the audience, there is authenticity, there is power in virtuality. And this confidence I am talking about is projected in our body language, the tone of our voice, and the words we use.
Working on the how is important, but it is not the first step for making videos. Working on the who is what will allow us to flow towards our goals.
I invite you, if you have the intention of making videos, to first ask yourself how connected you feel with yourself. You can answer the following questions:
Do I feel comfortable in front of the camera?
What makes me uncomfortable when recording and why?
Do I believe in the power and value of my message?
Do I recognize my strengths and weaknesses when presenting?
Do I judge myself? Am I hard on myself when I see myself on video?
Now that you've answered this, it's time to reflect. If your conclusions are not very aligned with confidence, it's time to reconnect and focus energy on doing so. I assure you that your videos will have more impact when you start believing in yourself and your awesomeness.
You are valuable, and so is your message. If what you have to share is loaded with value and if your essence is wonderful, then why doubt them?
Your virtual power lies within you, believing in who you are and what you have to offer to the world.
